ALEXANDER MC QUEEN
MIAMI
Located in the famous Miami District at 146 NE 41st Street Alexander McQueen launches its new boutique on the trace of the London Flagship store signed by the Chilean Smilijan Radic and Metis Lighting curated the illumination.
Radic designed an immersive fascinating scenery handling a material palette of wood, raw stone, intense coloured textile, glass constructions and the already introduced cotton-crete creating stunning features and motifs for showcasing the famous brand’s fashion items. Nature coexists elegantly with high fashion expressing the unique character of the brand.
The glazing on the ground floor level permits the pedestrian’s look to penetrate inside the store, where a large white dome covers the space. The overhanging first floor seems to be floating and the round opening is a clear reference to the iconic Hollein’s Retti Candle Shop.
Due to this particular interplay of sinuous volumes and transparency, lighting is a major scenographic factor that intensifies the poetic warmth while also elevates the showcased fashion. Adjustable downlights embedded in the ceiling and the dome in a seemingly organic and random disposition are focused on the exhibited goods while also providing general illumination throughout the space.
All the millwork also integrated concealed lighting for better enhancing the showcased elements creating another luminous layer on the walls and inside the freestanding counters.
Vertical lighting often looks like a rather simple illuminating gesture. Nevertheless, setting the adjustable lighting fixtures in a balanced way while also avoiding annoying glare, requires intense work since the initial design until the final on-site focusing.
