Lighting the way: Metis partners with Politecnico’s Lighting Design Program

We wish to share our thoughts today on the centrality of Lighting Designers as a knowledgeable and informed professional, their active role in the integrated design process, and thus the importance, as well as the necessity, of a comprehensive and high-level training.
The Lighting Designer is part of a complex system, consisting of many players in the design chain, each involved with their own specificities, characteristics, and knowledge in a common project. The Lighting Designer’s vision, if competent, is multifaceted and interdisciplinary, the result of a multidisciplinary training that is constantly growing and evolving. Therefore, they are a key figure in the process of designing and implementing effective and innovative lighting solutions.
For these reasons, Metis Lighting, an independent studio that has been operating in the lighting design sector for over thirty years, has decided to support the research activities of the Politecnico di Milano and actively collaborate in defining the educational program for the next edition of the Master’s in Lighting Design & Technology.
We consider this a fundamental act to adequately prepare future professionals to face the challenges of a constantly evolving sector where the convergence of emerging technologies, educational changes, and increasing environmental awareness are redefining challenges and opportunities.
Education is a vital and essential tool, and we are convinced that a significant investment in it is crucial for the birth and development of a critical consciousness, enabling new professionals to competently tackle a variety of challenges and issues.
Metis Lighting is sincerely proud and happy to contribute to the research activities of the Master’s in Lighting Design & Technology, a course to which we have dedicated lessons and workshops over the years and which, in its very first edition, saw its founding partners, architects Marinella Patetta and Claudio Valènt, as students.
