KENZO
BOUTIQUE
SHANGHAI
Metis joined the Kenzo design team providing feedback for improvement of the existing lighting project included from the renovation led by the new artistic directors, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon.
This new vision included a fresh palette of finishings, with grayscale hues, concrete ruvid textures and shiny lucid metal elements.
One of the main issues was that the existing lighting levels weren’t sufficient and also differentiated providing the necessary focus on the products.
The strategy was to balance on one hand the illuminance produced from the ceiling luminous grid, a custom design element giving character to the whole space, and the millwork integrated fixture providing a certain amount of light in the boutique and the products, and on the other hand, the direct light from the downlights.
Metis introduced in the Kenzo Shanghai lighting scheme introduced another light level and light quality, adding grazing light on the perimetral walls of the space providing a brighter backdrop for the products.
The next lighting gesture in the Kenzo lighting scheme is the integration of linear lighting fixtures in the hanging structures and shelves.
In order to arrive in a consolidated Kenzo lighting conept, setting the distribution of the ceiling downlights along with the selection of the light fittings with proper specifications in terms of luminance, beam angle and colour rendering, were fundamental.
That resulted into obtaining the necessary focus and contrast in the whole image of the space.
