A year of wonder
December 16th, 2024
December, the last month of the year. Ending, drawing conclusions, closing open chapters, and then, finally, pausing. It’s that moment of the year when you accelerate and then let go, slow down, switch off for a few days.
We don’t love making assessments, lining up numbers and results, but today it feels necessary because 2024 has been a dense, vibrant, rich year, 365 days in which each of us, in the studio, was called to do our part and give our contribution, not always perfect but certainly precious, because deeply personal and authentic.
We shared hours of project work, testing, presentations and meetings, daily reviews and discussions, layouts, training and teaching encounters. We didn’t count miles but journeys—site visits, mock-ups, and focusing have taken several of us across the world to every latitude and longitude.
We were all together in Rome during a luminous and clear November’s weekend and it was an occasion of incredible value: we were surrounded and immersed in exceptional beauty.
To tell this story, to synthesize what it means for us to be lighting designers, we entrusted ourselves to the hand of Margherita Caspani, who returned to us a reading both poetic and delicate, yet profound and true, of the essential traits of what is, at its core, our profession.
“As an illustrator, my work is all about telling stories through images. Taking on the challenge of illustrating Metis and the profession of the Lighting Designer has been an engaging and enriching opportunity for me.
In this story, light is the protagonist, and the lighting designer is the one who studies it, shapes it, and brings it to life. I imagined this professional, metaphorically, as someone who draws the stars in the sky, enhancing and filling the celestial vault with magic: without their dedication, the night would never be the same”
Margherita Caspani
What we desire for the coming year is to continue doing what we love: to preserve moon and stars, to shed light, to contribute to the culture of lighting design by working with attention and care, activating positive changes, doing our part with awareness and seriousness.
May your holidays be bright with unexpected moments and may you find peace in the subtle interplay of winter’s lights and shadows.
Wishing you luminous days ahead, filled with wonder, creativity, and gentle brilliance.
